Munich Souvenir

Design Research Project to create a new Souvenir in cooperation with City of Munich.

Task: Design Research Project to create a new Munich Souvenir in cooperation with the City of Munich.

Approach: Experiences come first and souvenirs should help to create this happy experiences. So we observed the topic by using Secondary Research in the fields of Experience Design, Happiness and the Flow Theory. Additionally, we conducted insights by interviewing Couchsurfers in Munich(Travelling-experts) to find out more about happy travel experiences. After analyzing the results of the research we found that there are 6 patterns which lead to happy travel experiences. Therefore we defined these patterns as crucial requirements of our new souvenir.

Result: The findings implicate that the City of Munich should provide a souvenir that is mostly natural and not purely media driven, personalized, useful, long-lasting, able to help a tourist with the design of happy experiences and it should be able to embody positive experiences in an intense way. In a design thinking process, we created several suitable souvenirs for Munich that reflect all of the findings of this project. Our souvenir, called “set for happy travelling” includes three different concepts: an interactive Travel Guide, a card-set that contains several local bits of advice and a memory bag to collect personal souvenirs like tickets or notes. We developed prototypes including a finalized Corporate Identity for every concept. The results were presented at the Munich Creative Business Week.
